Getting excited at 8201m 8201m on Cho Oyu. Everest in the background

In the early 1990s at university I started competing in both fell and road races around the Peak District, achieving 77 minutes for a 1/2m and 34 mins for a 10k on the road. The hills and moors of the Peak District National Park were a great training ground and I attribute my speed, endurance and technical ability to hours spent chasing my friends along the top of Stanage.

More recently I have turned my hand to Ironman distance triathlons around the world finishing sub 10 hrs.

In 2010 I moved to work in the United Arab Emirates, training the military and then lecturing at a university.

Now, although I’m based in the French Pyrenees, Font Romeu and Dubai, I spend most of the year working as a mountain guide in the Himalaya, Andes, Asia, Africa…
I’ve led over 14 8000m expeditions and summitted many other trekking and lower peaks including 3 times leading successful groups to the summit of Everest. I have also climbed Manaslu and Gasherbrum II without oxygen.

I’ve written numerous articles for outdoor magazines and was editor of a publication in the Middle East. I’ve also published a book, From Dubai to Everest detailing our 2015 Everest expedition and the earthquake in Nepal. All proceeds from the ongoing sale of the book go to charities in Nepal.

Getting outside and exploring new places whether it is climbing, running with friends, races or biking is still what I love the most.
